Whether you are going into the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) soon or a parent debating on placing your child in a school offering the curriculum, one of the first things to consider is subject choices, which can be somewhat confusing. You may already be aware that a full IB Diploma student must satisfy three Core components and six subjects distributed across a minimum of five different subject areas, with three at the higher level (HL) and three at the standard level (SL). With close to all schools offering well over six subject options in the IBDP, students can make an important decision on their subject combination, which should align with their interests, strengths, and plans for the future. However, completing the IB Diploma requires more than just fulfilling the basic requirements, with multiple factors influencing a student's performance. From the perspective of an IB graduate, I hope to enable you to make well-informed subject choices by the end of this guide!
